Chenye Yuan won the gold medal at the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1994, and was a jury member at the 15th Competition in 2015 and 17th Competition in 2023. He was a national winner of the 1998 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions; First Prize Winner in the 1994 Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition in Finland, and First Prize and Audience Choice Awards in the 1998 Eleanor McCollum Competition in Houston. Chenye Yuan has established himself as one of the leading baritones at National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing.
Chenye Yuan has established himself as one of the leading baritones at National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Beijing.He has played more than 11 main roles there, including the title roles of "Rigoletto" "Nabuco" and "Eugene Onegin", under the baton of Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta and Eugene Cohn. His clear, supple voice and his ability to portray vastly different characters
have earned him International acclaim. In Rigoletto with the Welsh National Opera, The Evening Herald described him as "Outstanding in the title role, combining great vocal power with heartfelt emotion". Mr. Yuan's masterful Rigoletto has opened the doors for him to some of the
best venues in the US and Europe, He has also performed the role with Houston Grand Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Minnesota Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Palm Beach Opera, Sacramento Opera and Lyric Opera of San Antonio. His other roles include: Renato in "Un ballo in Maschera" with Boston Lyric Opera, Enrico in "Lucia di Lammermoor", Amonasro in "Aida", Marcello in "La Bohème" and Bahr in "Little Women" with Houston Grand Opera. He has performed the role of Chou Enlai in "Nixon in China" with San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, San Diego Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra in New Zealand and Opera Colorado (live performances which recorded and published by the Naxos Records ). Recent engagements include: New Year's Gala Concerts 2023 with NCPA, three art songs recitals at Da Lian Grand Theatre, FuJian Grand Theatre and NCPA. Playing the role of Giorgio Germont in "La Traviata", Prince Seikyo in Tan Dun's "Tea: A Mirror of the Soul" with Vancouver Opera, Michele in "Il Tabarro" and the title role of "Gianni Schicchi" with Opera
Carolina, Umeya in Huang Ruo's "Dr. Sun Yat-Sen" at Santa Fe Opera. Mr. Yuan's symphony performances include : Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Dvorak's "Te Deum" with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Conducted by Charles Dutoit, Hadyn's "The Creation" with Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Neville Marriner, Mahler's 8th Symphony conducted by Yoel Levi at NCPA, Nixon in China with Chicago Symphony Orchestra at Ravinia Festival with Marin Alsop conducting, Verdi' s Gala Concert conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano at NCPA, Ye XiaoGang's "Songs of the earth" with Detroit Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall, the baritone solo at the world premiere of Krzysztof Perderecki's 6th symphony with Guangzhou
