Zhuokun Dong is the associate principal tubist of the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra. Born in Shunde, Guangdong in 1995, Dong studied under Prof. Guo Zheng of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music, tubist Gao Yue of the China Philharmonic Orchestra, and associate principal tubist Wang Haiyu of the China NCPA Orchestra. In 2013, Dong was accepted by China’s Central Conservatory of Music (CCM) with the highest grades in his cohort. During his time as a student, he was the principal tubist of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra and represented the university at the opening ceremony and performance of the China-Russia Youth Friendship Year (at which Vice Premier Liu Yandong of China spoke), conducted by Valery Abisalovich Gergiev. In 2015, he toured Germany and Switzerland with the Orchestra, attending classical music festivals around Europe and performing Ein Heldenleben at the Berliner Philharmonie. Dong is a two-time winner of the chamber music scholarship offered by the CCM. He has performed in the China National Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kunming Nie Er Symphony Orchestra as a visiting musician. As a member of “China Brass”, an ensemble of CCM brass professors, he performed at the Beijing Zhongshan Park Music Hall.
Dong joined the Ningbo Symphony Orchestra in 2017 and has performed in hundreds of concerts since. In 2019, he toured Italy with the Orchestra to attend summertime music festivals.
